Student Spotlight: Creeps
4/15/2024How do you approach the creative process when producing a new track or curating a playlist?
I usually make the best music with a clear mind. I’ll wake up, go to the gym, take a shower, and start up my laptop. Then I feel the most creative and focused. For me, it’s sort of a cheat code to creativity.
Which artists or genres have influenced you?
I’ve always been a big lover of house music. Over the years, my preferences for subgenres of house have changed a bit. But lately, I've been very into artists like Ammo Avenue, Joey Daniel, LondonGround, and many more.
What challenges have you faced as a beginner?
As a beginner, I was struggling very badly with finishing music. I would work on one single track until it was finished, but sometimes I lost inspiration for that track or fell out of love with it. The funny thing is, I overcame this struggle by focusing less on finishing music and more on creating. That way, I was way more creative, and I could just jump between tracks if I didn't feel inspired for a certain song anymore.
Do you recall a memorable performance or gig that had a significant impact on your career?
Playing at Tomorrowland Invited 2023 definitely was one for the books. I never got goosebumps at any gig until that one. It was also one of the first gigs where I was slightly experimenting with my new sound. At that moment, I knew that DJ’ing is what I love to do the most.
What advice would you give to aspiring DJs and producers?
I’ve got 2 main tips. The first is: practice. Practice as much as you can on every aspect. Whether that is DJ’ing, producing, or even social media. Try to put as many hours into it as you can. The second piece of advice I can give is: never give up. Always believe in yourself, and don't let anybody talk you down. I’m certain that you can achieve anything in life if you work hard enough and believe it.
What is your vision for the future?
I want to tour the world and play all my favorite venues while creating music 24/7. I would love to share my music and passion with crowds all over the globe.
How do you handle creative blocks or moments of self-doubt?
In moments of stress/insecurity, I try to take a step back and recharge. I’ll usually go exercise, do some other hobbies, or hang out with friends. It’s also important to not have too high expectations for yourself. Try to also enjoy life from time to time. A healthy balance usually prevents these stressful moments.
What lesson did you learned during your course at Tomorrowland Academy?
The most valuable lesson I've learned is that connections are one of the most important things for being a DJ/Producer. Those people can take you to important places or connect you to other people that might be useful. Everyone has something of value so, talk with everyone at the club/studio/festival because you never know what they can do for you. Also, don’t be too harsh on yourself and try to have fun. Remember that at the end of the day, it still needs to feel like your passion, not a job.
What message do you want to tell other Tomorrowland Academy students?
Just go for it. You never know what you pick up there. Even if it isn't knowledge, maybe it's your network or something else. No matter in what phase of your career you are, you should definitely go because you’re gonna pick something useful up.
